Republican Ted Cruz needed a boost lately. Ever since the porn video like he sent out last month and his opposition to endorse President Trump at the GOP congress, he had not been in the top drawer of people’s most liked politicians.

Yesterday he decided the best way to make sure he’s like by the general public again, is to have some fun at his own expense, and so he sent out a tweet referring to the popular internet meme that he is the so-called ‘Zodiac killer’. For this reason, he sent out his own cryptogram puzzle.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"> <a href="https://t.co/CRKdrSDWes">pic.twitter.com/CRKdrSDWes</a></p>&mdash; Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) <a href="https://twitter.com/tedcruz/status/920709146789515272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 18, 2017</a></blockquote>

As you know, the Zodiac killer was a serial murderer who terrorized the northern Californian region in the 1960s and early 1970s. To this day, he has not been identified, even though he has taunted police with various letters and cryptograms which have proven tough to crack for anyone.

In fact it all started in 2013 for Mr Cruz, when he gave a speech at a Conservative Political Action Conference which was entitled ‘This is the Zodiac Speaking’.

The meme got so popular that in February of 2016, Public Policy Polling went on to ask registered voters in Florida if they believed Mr Cruz was in fact the Zodiac Killer; to which some 10% responded positively. With 28% not being too sure.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">whew! went on a great run today :) <a href="https://t.co/jNuGxgdUQX">pic.twitter.com/jNuGxgdUQX</a></p>&mdash; Kevin Tang (@Yolo_Tengo) <a href="https://twitter.com/Yolo_Tengo/status/703008690874372096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 26, 2016</a></blockquote>

<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Of course Mr Cruz, who was born in 1970, could not have mathematically committed these murders, as they began before his birth. Circulators of the internet meme do not genuinely believe that he was the Zodiac Killer, but just highlight a general feeling the public has about Mr Cruz: they think he's creepy. And they want to point that out, as clearly as they can.
