During the jury selection process for accused cop-killer Travis Boys' trial, he interrupted the proceeding by rubbing feces on his face, head and mouth in the courtroom. Boys is charged with the murder of a New Orleans police officer in 2015 who he shot while attempting to escape police custody.
The 35-year-old Boys pleaded not-guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of NOPD Officer Daryle Holloway on June 20, 2015. A jury was being selected Wednesday for the trial which was expected to begin next Monday. Orleans Parish prosecutor Taylor Anthony was in the process of interviewing prospective jurors around 4 p.m. Wednesday when Boys disgusting outburst occurred.
Boys was seated at the defense table between his two attorneys Billy Sothern and Mathew Vogel when he pulled out a folded napkin from inside his suit pocket. Inside the napkin was his own feces which he stashed during an earlier bathroom break. Without saying a word, the cop-killer began spreading the feces on his head and face including his mouth.
The outburst resulted in Judge Karen Herman ordering an immediate halt to the selection process and dismissed the potential jurors. A new competency evaluation for the defendant has been scheduled for Thursday. It is likely Boys thought the stunt would work in his favor and result a not-guilty verdict by reason of insanity.
