North Carolina Police Officer-Couple Charged with Child Abuse of 3-Yr.-Old Boy

A North Carolina couple who are both police officers have been charged with child abuse after several bruises were seen on a 3-year-old boy’s body. A daycare center who noticed the marks on the child’s body reported the matter. Authorities have confirmed the charges against the police officer-couple.

Alamance County deputy Christopher Willburn and Elon University police officer Erin Rumley were arrested on Monday, according to the State Bureau of Investigation.

Even more saddening and enraging is that the couple hurt their own child who happens to have special needs. The vulnerable child also cannot talk.

Court records show that the boy had several bruises and an injured shoulder.

Rumley has been fired after her arrest for child abuse. Alamance County for its part said they have opened a probe into Wilburn.

Both Rumley and Wilburn have been charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

It is not yet clear if they have availed the services of counsel, or if they have been provided with one.

It is also not clear who has the custody of the abused child now to ensure his safety.
