A Pensacola woman was arrested and charged with homicide with the death of a child on Saturday. Two other adults were charged with child neglect, still in connection with the child’s death.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said the black woman, Veronica Green Posey, 64, was charged with homicide and cruelty toward a child after paramedics responded to a call at 1:35 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Bryant Road.
The child was brought to the hospital but was later proclaimed dead there.
The other adults charged are Grace Joan Smith, 69, and James Edmund Smith,62. They were arrested and charged with child neglect for failing to report the abuse. Grace Smith is also charged with cruelty toward a child.
James Smith is currently being held on a $50,000 bond. Grace Smith and Posey are being held without a bond on the other hand.
The Sheriff’s Office said investigators are still probing the case, and could not release for now further details into the matter. It remains particularly unclear how the child died, and what was done to her by the adults charged. It is also not clear if the child was related to those adults charged in the death.
