Gulfport, Mississippi Police Searching for Armed and Dangerous Gunman

Police in Gulfport, Mississippi is searching for a suspect in a shooting that has left one man severely injured.

It's believed that a family member took the man to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, where his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening but he did have to undergo emergency surgery, Gulfport Police Sgt. Joshua Bromen said.

Around noon today, emergency 911 dispatch received a call to report a shooting at the complex in the 1700 block of 65th Avenue.

The neighborhood is off 17th Street just east of the Long Beach city limit in Mississippi, at the William Bell apartments.

The shooting apparently occurred inside an apartment near the complex office. Several crime scene unit vehicles could be seen parked in front of the building attempting to gather evidence to understand exactly what happened.

Detectives spoke with residents and determined exactly what occurred, Bromen said.

“This is the quiet side,” one woman said. “We can’t hear what’s going on over there on the side by the Seabee base.”

Now Police are searching for 19-year-old Eric Demond Hamilton, who officers say is responsible for firing at the victim.

Hamilton has a previous criminal record and is said to be a known gang member with drug trafficking and criminal ties.

Eric Demond Hamilton is to be considered both armed and dangerous and investigators are asking that anyone with information as to his whereabouts contact Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
