10 Confirmed Dead With More Than 100 Missing In California Wine Country Fires

The Northern California authorities say ten people are dead and more than one hundred are missing as of Monday night as wildfires rage through the wine country. The communications director for Sonoma County, Scott Alonso, said family members reported those missing via a phone line set up in the county. Alonso speculated that many of those missing could be safe but just can't be reached because of the loss of cell service.

The fire has grown to over 2,000 acres just since earlier Monday afternoon putting the total size at 27,000 acres. Already 14 homes have been destroyed in the fire. The Goldwater reported earlier today that nearly 100,000 people are without power.

Andy Luttringer's wife died of cancer a few years ago and sadly he lost much of her artwork in the fire that destroyed his home. "I’m really mad at myself, said the 62-year-old retired police officer. "I could have grabbed a couple of her pieces. The rest of the stuff I couldn’t care less about."

Already over 100 patients have been brought to St. Joseph Health due to the fire, mostly related to smoke inhalation. Both St. Joseph Health hospitals in Santa Rosa Memorial in Santa Rosa and Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa are taking victims of the fire.

Workers at the majority of vineyards in the area have already picked this seasons grapes but the wind continues to drive the fires further. Plumes of smoke were even visible from Disneyland prompting officials to issue warnings about air quality for Los Angeles County.

The fire is zero percent contained at this time according to a Anaheim police spokesman.
