Breaking News coming out of Texas Tech University that a Texas Tech Campus Police Officer has been killed by an active shooter.
The entire campus is currently on lockdown while students and staff are urged to remain in a safe place until the situation has been given an all clear and the suspect is arrested.
Police say they had originally apprehended the gunman, 19-year-old Hollis Daniels and that the entire incident including the murder occurred whilst he was in custody before he fled the scene.
According to University Spokesman Chris Cook, the Campus Police went to perform a Student Welfare Check on Daniels and when they entered the room they located both illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
Cook says that's when University staff and Campus Police took Daniels to the Police Station for a standard debriefing session.
During that interview with Daniels, he pulled a loaded gun out of his pocket and shot one officer at point blank range in the head, killing him instantly.
That's when Daniels took off on foot running and there's an active shooter warning as well as a manhunt occurring to find Daniels.
