Julian Assange held an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News and it was evident that the WikiLeaks founder was bound to deny on the record that the Kremlin was the source f the hacked Democratic emails. Assange made it clear that WikiLeaks sources were not the Russian government and its not a state party. On Monday afternoon, WikiLeaks decided to engage in some creative marketing by promising that 2017 will be an even bigger year for leaks than 2016 was, adding that the recently exposed dirty laundry of the Clinton campaign, US political secrets, covert trade deals and private communications from global leaders were just a tip of the iceberg compared to what was going to be leaked in 2017.
WikiLeaks tweeted on Monday saying that if you thought 2016 was a big WikiLeaks year, 2017 was bound to blow your mind away. WikiLeaks did not give any hints as to what was in store. In the tweet, WikiLeaks featured a clip from a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western showdown, it also included a link to its website’s donation page so that people can support the worthy course.
Its no doubt that 2016 was a game-changing year for the whistleblowing site, it delivered massive loads of documents in the one year period. The site unleashed 50,000 emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign chair, John Podesta and more than 27,000 emails from the Democratic National Committee, all which confirmed that the DNC worked against Bernie Sanders, favoring Clinton, all which led to the resignation of the then-DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
The leaked emails were a big blow to the Clinton campaign since they related to the US election and they rocked the Democratic establishment. It was evident that John Podesta’s revelations tipped the election against Hillary Clinton.
The releases sparked a global diplomatic scandal between Russia and the U.S and as a result Obama’s administration had to accuse Russia of the hack. Obama has also gone to the extreme by expelling 35 Russian diplomats and seized two Russian compounds. However, Putin refused to retaliate in tit-for-tat fashion, he instead made it clear that he was going to wait for Trump’s inauguration.
WikiLeaks gave an insight into the US arming of Yemen by releasing more US State Department cables and documents. It also released text from the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and Trade in Services Agreement. Following speculations that Julian Assange has been compromised, WikiLeaks confirmed on Monday that Assange will take part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything on Thursday at 14:00 GMT.
