Worcester: 5 Women Kidnap, Beat and Torture Another Woman

In a rare turn of crime reporting, meaning that this is not something I get to say very often, it was announced today that five women were arrested by Worcester police for kidnapping another woman as well as beating and burning her inside an apartment.

Police officers received a neighbors’ tip who assumed violence was being used to keep a woman inside an apartment and immediately responded to the scene in 6 Mount Pleasant Street.

Upon entering and to their surprise, they found a group of 5 women trying to hide in various spaces of the apartment.

Police searched the apartment and besides the kidnap victim, came back out with crack cocaine, a digital scale, plastic baggies, cyclobenzaprine, a .45 caliber bullet, a cellphone and $55.

The victim informed police that she was indeed being held against her will, had been bound with duct tape, struck with a golf club and burned with a cigarette. She also claimed that the other women cut her hair and stuck her inside a dog cage.

Police questioned her before escorting her to a nearby hospital. The victim declared that she went to the apartment because she received a call saying that a certain Lillian Salgado “wanted to speak with her.” It is clear however that this was not a random attack and that the suspects and victim knew each other well.

Arrested were Ms Lillian Salgado, 40 years old, Ms Marian Murphy, 21years old, Ms Jessica Moody, 30 years old, Ms Shayna Alexander, 41 years old, and lastly Ms Jamie Edick, 28 years old. The group will appear before Worcester County District Court on various charges, including kidnapping as well as assault and battery.

Woman on woman violence is quite rare, and certainly an organized crime group of women is not something you hear a lot about. It appears that once again the greater area around Boston is bucking the trend when it comes to crime.
