US actor Mark Salling, who starred as Noah “Puck” Puckerman in the hit TV show Glee, will go to jail for a period of 4 to 7 years after pleading guilty to possession of child abuse images. As part of the plea agreement, Mr. Salling will also have to register as a sex offender.
The now 35-year-old was already arrested in May 2016 for child possession on his computer and a flash drive. Mr. Salling will have to abide by very strict guidelines upon his release. He will be supervised for the next twenty years and cannot have communication with anyone under the age of eighteen unless a parent or legal guardian is present. He will have to remain at least 100 feet away from any children’s facility such as public schoolyards, playgrounds, and parks.
Mr. Salling stated: “I am pleading guilty because I am guilty of the charges and wish to take advantage of the promises set forth in this agreement, and not for any other reason.”
By doing so, Mr. Salling avoids a maximum sentence of twenty years imprisonment. He is also ordered to pay each of his victims 50,000 dollars and start a treatment for sex offenders.
Police found more than 50,000 images and videos of child abuse on the hard drive of his computer between April and December of 2015. Mr. Salling tried to hide his IP address with special software.
This is not the first time Mr. Salling was in the news for sex-related charges. In January 2013 already, a woman accused him of sexual battery. He denied and countersued but later settled out of court for a reported 2.3 million dollars.
Mr. Salling hails from Dallas, Texas where he was home-schooled. He went to Providence Christian School and Our Redeemer Lutheran during elementary school.
After his high school graduation, Mr. Salling attended the LA Music Academy College of Music in Pasadena, California. He starred in several movies but was most famous for his role in Glee.
