Man Down a Liter of Rum, Stabs Housemate to Death Then Cuts His Penis Off

A man first downed a liter of rum then went on to carry out a gruesome murder. He repeatedly stabbed his flatmate to death then cut his penis off.

It was also revealed in the court hearing that the suspect, Jeffrey Barry, 56, told people that he wanted to kill some individuals, and that top on his list is the victim Kamil Ahmad.

Barry woke up his sleeping housemate in the early hour of July 7 last year in the home they shared in Bristol. He knocked on Ahmad’s room and once allowed inside, stayed in the room for a good 40 minutes. By the time he emerged, he was covered in blood.

The Crown Court heard that Barry inflicted more than 25 stab wounds to his housemate and then cut off his penis at the base. The two were then staying at a multi-occupancy house for adults who need special support.

The court heard that about six weeks before the gruesome crime, Barry told support workers that he desired to be “notorious” and to kill people. He said their housemate, the Kurdish-born Ahmad was at the top of his list.

Also less tan an hour before the murder, Barry told a community psychiatric nurse that he was “clinically insane” and “could not be held responsible for his actions.”

Barry was said to have always had ill feelings for Ahmad and had been racist against him. He also reported to the police that Ahmad was a fraud and a rapist. He had also previously issued threats against Ahmad, including one on May 24 last year.

Barry suffers from schizophrenia, and he pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, but entered a guilty plea to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility based on his mental health.

Prior to the commission of the crime, Barry was taken to the psychiatric ward after being seen exhibiting peculiar and highly-sexualized behavior including wandering around naked and masturbating in common areas of the house. He also went out that night drinking for several hours at two bars in Bristol.

Barry also told a nurse that night that he “felt like punching an Asian man in the building.”’

The court also heard that Barry himself reported the incident and his role in it to the authorities after killing his flatmate.

The murder trial will continue.
