Many people thought the shots were fireworks or some other effect to do with the performance but when people began to drop and glass started shattering concert-goers hunkered down on the ground. Heather Melton says her husband, covered her with his own body and gave his life protecting hers. The moment shots broke out:

In a post to Facebook Mrs. Melton said she lost her "true love and knight in shining armor." Sonny Melton worked as a registered nurse at Henry County Medical Center where his wife also worked as a doctor. The two were married just one year ago and he was described as a sweet and kind spirit.
