Singer Tom Petty has been confirmed dead after being taken to a local hospital where he died. Initial reports stated that the singer was found unconscious and not breathing in his California home.

He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospita by EMTs and put on life support late Sunday night. According to TMZ, "after Petty got to the hospital he had no brain activity and a decision was made to pull life support." Tom Petty was an iconic rock star who made a successful and decades long career as the singer for his group Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
He was 66 years old when he passed today and had recently finished a 40th anniversary tour with his band. The final show took place on September 22 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.
