A man in North Dallas has possibly fired shots outside before barricading himself inside the home on Saturday afternoon. SWAT team members have responded to the situation and have gone to the scene.
The man shot at a family member. The shooter was a 30-year-old man, who could have fired at two people outside his home. Initial reports say it could be a domestic spat between father and son.
The officers were at the scene of the incident at a home in the 10600 block of Pagewood Drive, near Hillcrest Road and Royal Lane for several hours.
The Dallas Police Department also posted a message on Twitter and wrote: “@DallasPD officers are on the scene of a barricaded person in the 10500 block of Pagewood and Berry Knoll. Please avoid the area”
Neighbors of the man told local media about hearing gunshots and even having the chance to talk to the suspect before he barricaded himself at home. A neighbor shared: “The guy in question said, ‘My dad’s going to the hospital. Don’t worry about the gunshots. I just shot at the ground.”
At about 6:38 p.m. however, the Dallas Police reported that the standoff had ended. The barricaded person is now in custody without incident. There are also no reported injuries.
The standoff lasted for seven hours.
Dallas Police Department Assistant Chief Gary Tittle also spoke to local media and said: “Through negotiations, we were able to convince him to come out. Once he did come out, he was resistant to being placed in custody.”
The authorities have yet to release the identity of the barricaded person, and his reason for firing shots and barricading himself at home.
It is unclear if charges will be filed against the person now in police custody. Should charges be filed, however, it is likely that it will be aggravated assault charges with a deadly weapon.
