Security Guard Fired After Standing Idly By And Laughing While Sexual Assault Occurred

A security guard in Kansas City has been fired after standing idly by and laughing while a sexual assault occurred on the property he was responsible for watching. The assault was caught on video at 31st and Prospect outside a shopping center on Monday and the video is difficult to watch. The victim, a young woman, was pushed against a car and groped repeatedly. Then the assailant rips of her shorts and underwear and exposes her genitals in broad daylight.

The victim's family is outraged at the video and what happened to their daughter while both the security guards and witnesses stood by doing nothing to stop the assault. Michiel Morgan is the victim's father and he said, "She’s got five kids and those kids are terrified. They’re worried, scared and I don’t know what to tell them." The Morgan family is now getting help from the community and is seeking the identity of the suspect. An advocacy group called Code Against Crime & Violence is also helping the victim. The victim has given the names of her attackers to the advocacy group and plans to also give the names to the police.

The Morgan family admits their daughter is a drug addict and believe the assault may have been the result of a drug deal gone wrong. Ron Hunt with the Code Against Crime and Violence said, "Regardless of whatever her lifestyle was or is, no one deserves to be treated like that, especially in public. And for other people to watch and view that as if it was some form of entertainment, it really kind of it…doesn’t set well with me." The advocates also want to encourage others to stand up when something wrong is happening and call police. No arrests have been made at this time.
