Earlier this week, The Goldwater reported on a fatal crash involving a LAPD officer who has shared an anti-drunk driving video on Instagram right before killing three people while driving drunk. L.A. County Sheriff’s Department inmate database now shows that Edgar Verduzco, 26, was freed from the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles around 5:10 pm Thursday after the DA failed to file charges within the 48-hour period after the time of arrest.

Earlier Thursday before Verduzco's release, Officer Al Perez with the California Highway Patrol who is investigating the incident told local news KTLA that the agency had not yet submitted a formal complaint to the District Attorney's office and did not expect to do so before the 48-hour deadline for holding prisoners without a warrant. Verduzco was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter after rear-ending two vehicles, one of which instantly caught fire and killed the family of three inside.

Verduzco was off-duty at the time of the incident and the family of three who killed have been identified as Oscar, Maribel and Mario Davila of Riverside. It is unclear at this time whether the California Highway Patrol plans to file a warrant for Verduzco's arrest, but it seems like a horrible injustice that he has not been charged with murdering an entire family while driving drunk.
