Investigators in Archdale, North Carolina say that an 11 week old baby has been pronounced dead after the Wake Forest Baptist Health medical team at the hospital told the family she was brain dead.
Archdale Police say the baby, named Harper Erin, was a victim of child abuse, and that they first received a call from the hospital after the baby was a patient to report what they believed was damage to the skull of the child as a result of physical abuse.
Harper Erin's mother has asked that she not be named, as she already has more than enough grief to deal with at this time.
She says that her daughter was in the care of the infant child's father, at the time when she was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“He went to the neighbors and the neighbors say that she was lifeless when she got there. When he knocked on the door, she was pretty much dead and that they had to give her CPR and she was gasping for air,” the mother explained.
The neighbors then called for an EMT, and once emergency medical responders arrived they attempted to keep Harper Erin alive until she made it to Wake Forest Baptist Health hospital.

The innocent child was originally on life support, before today's announcement that she had passed away.
Hospital staff told police that they absolutely suspect physical abuse in this case to have been to blame.
“I haven't left her side. Me and my mom just bought her Christmas presents that she won't ever open,” the girl's mother said in tears.
The mother of the Harper Erin believes that the child's father shook the girl, or possibly committed another atrocity.
Through tears she said, “He told the EMS that she had a seizure,” she stated. “She just wanted to be held. She probably said 'Stop dad.'”
Police have stated that they are speaking with a number of people, including family members and friends in this investigation, and also that they are in contact with the Randolph County District Attorney's Office, but no charges have yet been filed.
“I hope he goes to prison for life. I hope he suffers in there and goes through what heartbreak I had to,” the mother said.
The father of the child has refused to comment to local media, and it seems as if all signs lead to him as being responsible for this tragedy.
