A 10-year-old girl was just pushing her bike down the street when a 40-year-old man grabbed her arm in an apparent effort to snatch her. The girl managed to wrestle free from the man’s hold and escaped, with the help of a concerned passerby. Police officers have been called and the man was arrested.
Authorities responded at around 4:15 on Sunday afternoon after the girl reported that a man took hold of her arm just as she was simply walking her bike home in Poole Road, Radford in Coventry, U.K.
A concerned citizen also intervened to help the girl escape from the would-be kidnapper and potential attacker. The victim suffered minor grazes as she fell to the ground when she fled from the man.
Specially-trained officers interviewed the child about the incident. The girl was able to provide then the West Midlands Police with a good description of the attacker.
The authorities said they gave top priority to probing the incident since a vulnerable child was involved and almost fell prey to a potentially dangerous man. Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Burton said since the case was a cause for concern for them and the neighborhood, additional officers were assigned to help with an extensive CCTV trawl of the area where the incident took place.
Burton said their investigations led the officers to the Tile Hill area of Coventry at around 7:15 p.m. last night where they arrested a man on suspicion of attempted kidnapping.
The officers also seized a vehicle suspected of being used in the commission of the offense.
The authorities are still interested to talk to as many witnesses as possible to shed more light on the incident. They are appealing to the public who’ve been in the area at around the time of the incident, and especially those who saw a blue 5-door Peugeot 307 driving in the area of Poole Road, Radford.
Anyone with helpful information is requested to contact the West Midlands Police immediately.
