15-Year-Old Suffers Heart Attack At Michigan Restaurant, Saved By Stranger

One thankful teenager in Michigan is recovering after surviving a close call with death thanks to a stranger. Robert Brown III was eating at Country Cabin Restaurant in Sterling Heights when he doubled over and collapsed from cardiac arrest knocking dishes off the table and causing his father to start to pray. His father told WXYZ, "I am like, 'Please get up'."

A woman who was sitting nearby rushed to Brown's aid as he lay completely unconscious on the floor of the restaurant, his father not knowing what to do. The woman's name was Susan Pendygraft and she called 911 and began CPR immediately. Normally Pendygraft is the one behind the counter at a bank but her quick action at the restaurant was above and beyond customer service. She probably saved his life, keeping oxygen to his brain until emergency responders arrived. " Chris Martin is the chief of Sterling Heights Fire Department and he described the scene, "She was doing CPR from when the three police officers arrived and they took over care from her until firefighters arrived. And that teamwork saved that young man's life. He is making a full recovery right now."

Brown's own mother died at a young age from a heart defect, and the 15-year-old was diagnosed with the same heart problem his mother had. The boy will now need a pacemaker. Brown said in an interview, "She came and brought me back to life and I am happy, I always have a smile on my face."
