What is Brocialism and Why You Don't Need to Care

You remember when Bernie Sanders had the primary stolen and anyone who pointed out that Hillary was basically a war-hawk, neo-conservative in Democrat's clothing? Divide and conquer is nothing new, it's been an effective strategy since Sun Tzu added it to his prized classic of strategy, The Art of War. Class reductionism versus identity politics is the name of the game here.

But what is a brocialist and why DON'T you need to know? Vice defines the term thusly:

<quote>Brocialist: a guy so in love with his own progressiveness or radicalness he is convinced he can do no wrong. This extends to being a sexist jerk.</quote>

Brocialist, a close cousin to "Bernie Bro." "Bernie Bro" is a term I believe was designed originally to demean opinions by those who oppose the corporatist status quo. If you don't support Hillary Clinton's war for profit and Goldman Sachs bankroll, you were a misogynist "Bernie Bro."

Democrats, by the way, are not (in general) leftist or even "liberal" by the classic definition. The same goes for so-called "conservatives." The idea of small government conservatives has been disappearing since before Nixon and the era of permanent war. Liberals once stood for liberty and freedom and now are best known as the party that wants to restrict how many ounces of soda you can carry at a time.

Corporatist Democrats and Republicans are basically left leaning neo-cons versus right leaning neo-liberals. George Bush I was more "pro-immigrant" by far than, for instance, Obama (referred to by some immigration groups as "Deporter-in-Chief"). For that matter, the populism of Trump (excepting the aim to lessen regulations and lean more towards laissez-faire) tends towards the left compared to traditional conservative policy.

Bernie Bros and Brocialism versus the corporatist neo-libs is the "Alt-Lite v. Alt-Right" fissure of the left. The rise of the racially conscious alt-right, by the way, was foretold by an African American scholar who expected white identity politics to naturally follow from the current climate.

Ironically, it's the "bourgeoisie" or cosmopolitan types (as Trump administration's Stephen Miller and Karl Marx put it) who use race, gender and class to create divisions so that all those affected by the same situations aren't able to come together and, by tackling the real issues, defeat them.

In short, ignore slurs like "Alt-Lite" and "Brocialist." The only purpose they serve is deepening the divide.
