Video - ISIS Kills Top Russian General

Just as their forces are about to be wiped out completely in their self-declared capital of Raqqa, the Islamic death cult we know as ISIS struck one last major target yesterday as they killed Russian Lieutenant-General Valery Asapov in a mortar attack.

"As a result of a sudden mortar shelling by IS militants, Lieutenant-General Valery Asapov was fatally wounded by an exploding shell,” the Russian Ministry of Defense statement said.

The Russian general had moved to Raqqa to consult the Syrian troops of Bashar Al Assad as they made their final assault. According to the Russia's Defence Ministry’s official statement, Mr. Asapov was 'at a command post of Syrian troops' when the mortar fire struck him. He died from his wounds on way to the military hospital.

The Russian parliament said the general will posthumously be decorated for his service to the country: “The general was always on the frontline, showing by his own example what it takes to be a real commander. Comrades-in-arms remember Valery Asapov as a reliable, brave, resolute, courageous and principled man… His death is a huge loss for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. General Asapov’s memory will live on forever.”

Meanwhile, the Syrian media channels are reporting that their government and allied troops have now seized most of the Maadan, a town just north of Deir el-Zor and south of the major city of Raqqa. There has been intense fighting with ISIS militants.

As we had informed you already last week, ISIS is encircled in Raqqa both by the US backed Kurdish forces and the Russian backed Syrian government forces.

Earlier this month, Syrian armed forces in close cooperation with the Russian Air Force, had successfully broken the hold of Deir ez-Zor by ISIS. The highway between Deir ez-Zor and Palmyra is now back under control of the Syrian army and humanitarian aid is finally able to get to the besieged inhabitants.

Official figures from the Russian Defense Ministry stated in so far 34 Russian servicemen have been killed in Syria. Russia sent troops to support the Syrian army of Bashar Al Assad in 2015.
