Former Scientology Critic Returns As Church Defense

Marty Rathbun, just one of the major figures in Scientology to have "blown" the dangerous and controlling organization, seems to have flipped back to the Church. Rathbun was featured in the documentary <i>Going Clear</i>. Speaking out about the dark inner workings of the church and operating a breakaway sect of Hubbard's Dianetics earned Rathbun the label of suppressive person as well as "Scientology Squirrel." Suppressive persons are, according to Dianetics author L. Ron Hubbard's own doctrine, considered "fair game" for any sort of attack as they inherently represent a danger to the Church of Scientology.

Looks like he&#39;s just doing contract work for it as an attack dog. For money? Some examples of fair game are nasty secrets, half-truths and blatant lies being broadcast through the internet and even as print pamphlets in certain cases to neighbors of the target. Perhaps, the constant abuse had gotten to be too much for Rathbun, but he seems to have rejoined the fold. Not only that, he has attacked former Scientologist and <i>Going Clear</i> documentary co-subject Paul Haggis.Haggis' <a href="https://tonyortega.org/2017/09/23/director-paul-haggis-pens-an-open-letter-to-marty-rathbun-after-scientologys-latest-smear">open letter to Marty Rathbun</a> is featured at Scientology watchdog Tony Ortega's website.

<quote>I could not have fathomed that Marty would flip again, and return to his role of being Scientology’s attack dog, for reasons only he knows.</quote>

In addition to the psychological strain of being at the whims of Scientology's diminutive dictator David Miscavige, Rathbun has been estranged from family, maligned by the Church and more than a bit browbeaten by Louis Theroux's recent attempt at a Scientology documentary (more of an exploitative piece of baiting and psychological abuse inflicted by and upon Scientologists and Theroux).
