Though still in its infancy compared to the more mature gaming market for television or PC screens, Japan’s virtual reality market for adults is starting to look like the real thing.
Director Taro Kambe commented enthusiastically whilst checking a scene from his first video made using the virtual reality technology: "I have directed hundreds of adult videos but it was my first virtual reality movie,"
Japan, always an early adopter market of any new technology, is currently the second biggest market (behind the United States of course) for virtual reality headsets and games. For this reason, both the gaming and the adult movie industry are actively looking into distributing their material in this manner.
Both for male and female virtual reality players there are exciting new developments, and as you can expect, the adventures that one can participate in are quite different for both categories.
During the Tokyo Game Show this week, a developer that specializes in creating gaming apps for women, Voltage, showed a virtual reality game called ‘Wedding VR’ in which the female players can walk down the aisle with a selected handsome man.
US investment banks see this market segment experience strong growth in the coming years. Piper Jaffray Bank commented: "Many in the adult industry are pursuing VR content and believe it could revolutionize an industry that has been stagnant for many years."
For men the titles on offer are indeed more diverse and mostly aimed at being seduced by multiple women (or girls) at the same time.
The softest version possible is of course the well known ‘Dead or Alive’ where you participate in all kinds of beach sports with well rounded Asian girls ready to smile to you and please you in any way possible. You’ll be able to view the ladies in the model viewer and playing the activities such as climbing rocks and playing volleyball.
Furthermore, developers are constantly finding new ways to immerse you into the virtual reality even deeper, ranging from smells that can escape from a controller or the experience of hot and cold (South Korea’s TEGway has created exactly this kind of handset).
