Police Officer Charged With Sexual Assault After DNA Confirms 15-Year-Old Victim's Child Is His

A police officer in Camden, New Jersey has been charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile girl after the teen gave birth to his child. Camden County Detective Rafael is facing charges of sexual assault after having a relationship with an unidentified 15-year-old girl. The Camden County Prosecutor's office says that Martinez and the girl had an alleged sexual relationship between September 2016 and August of this year at his house in Gloucester Township.

The teen gave birth in August and the official complaint says the DNA tests performed by the State Police match samples from Martinez proving the child belongs to him. The Camden police say Martinez admitted to being the child's father and even signed the child's birth certificate. He was arrested on September 12th and suspended without pay.

It is unknown if Martinez has an attorney at this time but it is likely he will be facing several years in prison. Some states do have laws in place that protect adults if they were engaged in a relationship with the minor since before they became an adult but it is unlikely such a law will apply in this circumstance.
