Law enforcement say that a close and personal friend to rapper Drake has been shot and killed in what appears to have been a premeditated murder.
Police say they were dispatched to the scene of the horrid killing at 6 Glamorgan Avenue in Toronto last week at around 3 AM after receiving multiple emergency calls about a shooting in progress.
According to the Toronto Police Service the victim, 33 year old Anthony Soares, died as a result of gunshots sustained to his body during the shooting.
Soares was standing in a lobby of the residential building which had security double doors in place, requesting access inside when police say that a four-door white Ford Fusion pulls up next to the entrance and two black male suspects approach the lobby entryway and opened fire.
The entire homicide was captured on closed circuit video surveillance, in what seems as if the suspects were not only aware that Soares was an intentionally marked target, but that he would be inside the facility at that exact time.
Detective Sergeant Gary Giroux of the Toronto Police Service said, “It certainly was very targeted. It was focused.”
The Sergeant implied that the suspects either had followed the victim to the location or could have been involved in a murder / set-up scenario where the victim was invited into the foyer where they knew he would be trapped and then pounced on the opportunity.
While Police didn't specify if they thought Drake was also in danger, they agreed that this was akin to an assassination, where the gunman were sending a message due to the extreme violence of the murder continuing to shoot the man long after he was dead in an effort to ensure their point was made.
Giroux said, “It was certainly overkill. The deceased is trapped between the inner foyer area and the offenders who are on the opposite side of the glass.”
Giroux said during a press conference Tuesday morning, “The deceased falls to the floor of the foyer. The suspects continue to fire at the deceased while he’s lying on the floor.”
The Detective Sergeant went on to say, “If I've ever witnessed professional killers in my life, these are certainly the type. They not only continued to shoot long after the victim was likely deceased but they showed no fear in fleeing from the scene, casually removing themselves without care afterwards.”
Toronto is essential Canada's Chicago, large city plagued by gun violence, degeneracy and drugs, alongside organized and powerful criminal networks of every type.
When asked about the connection to rapper Drake, Giroux doubled down saying, “He was well known to Drake. Drake was a friend of his,” Giroux said.
“Many of the family members have met Drake and I would certainly encourage him, through his tweets, to encourage anybody in the community to come forward,” added the Detective Sergeant.

This marks the 39th homicide of the year for Toronto, a city plagued by similar tragedy and crime.
Giroux was quoted as referring to the crime as a “Targeted Assassination Overkill”, which suggests that this murder was meant to send a message, although he didn't refer to whom the message was intended for.
Law enforcement also say that Soares was well known to police, but didn't elaborate on what that meant.
Over two dozen rounds of ammunition were fired into Soares, with the suggestion that if the killers were intending to send a message it was heard loud and clear.
The Toronto Police Service is asking anyone with information as to the the victim, the suspects in the video, or what type of criminal mischief could have potentially led to the homicide to contact them at +1-416-808-2222 where you can leave an anonymous tip.
