A woman’s dead body has been found at a Northern Beaches home owned by supermodel Gemma Ward. A man has been charged for the shocking discovery.
50-year-old Lanell Latta was found dead around 10:45 a.m. yesterday inside the house on Marine Pde, Avalon Beach. Just half an hour after the discovery of Latta’s dead body, her own son was arrested in a street less than 35 km away. The 25-year-old man was later charged with murder and assault resulting to actual bodily harm
The authorities have yet to give full details on how the murder was carried out, and what the motive of the son to kill his own murder. Neighbors and other witnesses would only give minor details about what they know of the crime.
Nearby resident Georgia Westwood, 18, was sitting on her family’s veranda when he saw a man walk walk south along Marine Pde street, then turn and retrace his steps. Moments after that, she heard a scream. Westwood said: “It wasn’t really loud but it sounded like someone was in distress. I thought it was just a family argument or something.” She added that later on, “When I heard all the sirens, I thought someone had fallen off Bangalley or something.”
Another resident, Phil Jones, also heard the same scream, but can not say for sure if that has a potential significance to the murder case. He said, however, “It’s not something you expect to happen around here.”
Another neighbor heard the scream and called the police emergency number, and ten minutes later the otherwise peaceful Marine Pde was bombarded with the sound of sirens as police and paramedics rushed to the scene.
Model Gemma Ward who was renting her property released a statement late yesterday. It said: “My heart goes out to the family and all involved in this tragedy. It’s heartbreaking news.”
The suspect has been refused fail and would have to face Manly Local Count tomorrow.
