Texas Man Whose House in on Fire Tries to Kill First Responders

A man in Bowie County, Texas was arrested after he shot at deputies for trying to put out a fire on his property. Bryan Lee Batchelor, 48, pointed a gun at firefighters from Dekalb Volunteer Fire Department and Deputy Eric McMillian and Deputy Westin Fanni of the Bowie County Sheriff's Office. Batchelor tried to prevent them from putting out the fire at his house which was already badly damaged.

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office said that Batchelor then get into his truck and started to drive through a field to get away from deputies. Deputy Eric McMillian and Deputy Westin Fanni pursued him into the field but their vehicle became stuck which is when Batchelor then rammed the deputies vehicles further disabling it. Shots were fired between Batchelor and the deputies and then Batchelor escaped. He was later sighted by deputies driving on County Road 4235 when he rammed another patrol unit with his truck and fired more shots before being taken into custody.

Batchelor was treated for injuries and taken to the hospital as well as the two deputies he rammed. Deputy Eric McMillian and Deputy Westin Fanni are expected to recover and Batchelor has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a public servant and evading arrest with a vehicle.
