Slender Man Stabbing Accomplice Found Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity

When Anissa Weier was 12-years-old she violently stabbed one of her friends to death to appease a fictional character called "Slender Man". Now, after deliberating for more than 12 hours, a jury has found the now 15-year-old Weier not guilty by reason of insanity.

Prosecutors say Weier and her friend, Morgan Geyser, both lured Payton Leutner into a forest at Waukesha park in May of 2014. All three girls were 12 years old at the time of the crime. After luring Leutner into the forest, Geyser stabbed her 19 times as Weier eagerly encouraged the violent attack. Despite being stabbed nearly 20 times, Leutner was able to crawl out of the forest and was found by a bicyclist riding through the park. Leutner survived her injuries.

Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide with the caveat she was mentally ill during the attack so she could not be held responsible for her own actions. The juries job was to decide whether she was mentally ill or not and eventually decided she was. Weier will be remitted to a mental hospital rather than a prison for her role in the attack
