Law enforcement in Randleman, North Carolina say that they found a disturbing case of Child Abuse inside of a home in their community.
On September 12th, Randleman Police Officers conducted a child welfare check at a home located in the 200 block of Back Street, after police received multiple calls from a woman claiming to be a grandmother that her grandchild was being both physically and mentally tormented.
Once the Officers arrived at the home, they made an effort to locate the child in which they were contacted to check on.
However, upon arrival police say that they found zero vehicles in the driveway and it appeared as if not a soul resided at the residence.
Randleman Police Officers attempted to knock on the door but received no response, at which time they began calling the child's name through the front and back doors and the windows.
To their surprise, they received a yell back from what sounded like a young girl.
One officer said he asked the girl if she was okay and the young girl replied with "no." Officers then asked if she needed help and she replied, "yes."
Officers then could legally force enter the residence, and they broke out a front porch window to the home to gain access.
What they encountered would absolutely shock them, as the five-year-old child was locked in a two-foot by four-foot closet under a stairway.
The poor girl had no food or water and appeared to be extremely malnourished as well as covered head to toe in burns, scratches, and bruises; all over her body.
The 5-year-old was then taken from the home by emergency medical responders who transported her to Randolph Hospital, who said that she was so malnourished she required further care and was transferred to Brenner's Children's Hospital.
Now the five-year-old girl is currently in the custody of the Randolph County Department of Social Services.
Police say they located the girl's father (who is unworthy of such a title), Adam Joshua Byrd, and Crystal Dawn Carnahan, who claimed to be the child's “caretaker” and both were arrested.

Authorities say that Byrd is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to cause serious injury, intentional child abuse with the intent to cause serious physical injury, and negligent child abuse with the intent to cause serious physical injury; all of which are felonies.

Investigators say that Carnahan is charged with assault with deadly weapon with the intent to cause serious injury, intentional child abuse with the intent to cause serious physical injury, and negligent child abuse with the intent to cause serious physical injury.

Each of the monstrous criminals was taken to the Randolph County Jail on a $350,000 secured bond, where they will await a future arraignment.
