Fyodor Dostoyevsky famously wrote that ‘Beauty will save the world’ in his classic novel The Idiot, one of Russia’s great tragedies. Throughout the years his words have become misunderstood and the quote is often misrepresented as ‘Art will save the world’.
This saying could be taken quite literally in the case of a 17-year old girl from Salina, this Monday.
Captain Paul Forrester of the Salina Police department, who was the arresting officer at the crime scene, explained that an 18-year old male from Salina was arrested last Monday for beating his 17-year old girlfriend at her home in South Salina and holding her against her will.
The incident occurred between 3:15 and 3:40 p.m. at the house of Mr. Chasin Arroyo, in the 2500 block of Simmons Street, when the girl went to the house of her then boyfriend to break up with him.
Allegedly, Mr. Arroyo and the girl were sitting in her vehicle as she told him that their relationship was over. As is often the case with young love, the boy did not take it that well. She asked him to leave the car which he refused. When she opened the car door and asked him repeatedly to leave, he simply grabbed her and dragged her body through the gate and into the backyard.
He then took her to the garage, where he fell on the floor. The girl got up, ran into the house and struck him with, here it comes, an art object.
Hearing the ruckus going on, one of the neighbors had already called the police. A Highway Patrol Trooper answered the call and drove up to the house. There he found Arroyo with his hands around the victim. After the minor did her story, Arroyo was arrested by the trooper. He was treated for a wound on his shoulder at Salina Regional Health Center.
