One of the most popular YouTubers on the planet, PewDiePie, is now facing massive scrutiny for freedom of speech.
During a recent livestream, Felix Kjellberg, also known as PewDiePie was playing an intense match where he let loose the phrase “What a fucking Nigger” in front of his 57 Million subscribers.
PewDiePie is known for edgy humor, which is simply what he does during his gaming streams that have led him to be the highest paid YouTube star.
However this was clearly an unintentional act, that simply slipped during the game play.

Anyone who plays online gaming on either platforms such as consoles or computers know that the voice speak during gaming amongst gamers is ten times more graphic than what PewDiePie actually said, in fact it's just part of gaming culture.
If you're however not a gamer and unfamiliar with such rhetoric and phrasing during competitive game play surely you'll jump to the aid of social justice warriors and attack PewDiePie for his words, but I implore anyone who doesn't play to take a look at a live game on either the Playstation Network or Xbox Live or even online PC match ups and realize this is common.
Realizing his mistake was on a live stream, PewDiePie quickly apologized for the language saying, “I don't mean that in a bad way.”
He's taken a considerable amount of bashing in recent months after Disney dropped him from their brand due to some of the satirical skits he's performed involving both what Disney called “Nazi Glorification” and “Anti-Semitic Phrasing”.
He defended the videos at the time, arguing he “was trying to show how crazy the modern world is, specifically some of the services available online”.
“I think it’s important to say something and I want to make one thing clear: I am in no way supporting any kind of hateful attitudes,” he wrote in a Tumblr post.
“I make videos for my audience. I think of the content that I create as entertainment, and not a place for any serious political commentary. I know my audience understand that and that is why they come to my channel.”
Most of what PewDiePie has said in his performances is simply that, comedic performance arts in the sense of humor and satire.
It's not different from stand up comedians who say far worse racial and derogatory slurs whilst winning acclaim and praise from critics and fans.
PewDiePie however has a target on his back and they're trying to take him down from the throne of YouTube superstardom.
It's truly remarkable that in 2017 there is such a strong critique of free speech and comedy that one must filter their words or else face backlash threats.
Whether or not you agree with his rhetoric or comments there's this really cool thing you can do if you don't appreciate it : simply don't watch it.
