Let me set it up for you… What happens when you are a teacher not too familiar with a computer and want to send your kids homework on Christian morals and Adam and Eve via email and you have a rather unfortunate typo?
Well in that case nature.com becomes something completely different.
Scandal in the British Adams’ Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire, as Miss Sara Bowater, 44 years old, was meant to send her teenage boys some homework on Christian Morals and wanted to direct them to a site where they could find some, shall we say, study material. Miss Bowater mistyped a single letter, leading the boys to open links with hundreds of XXX-rated videos.
A source at the 15,000 dollar per year private school, whose old pupils include Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the British opposition party Labour, declared that: “It’s outrageous. They’re just 17 and shouldn’t see this stuff. For it to be sent by an RE teacher is crazy.”
One of the parents of the boys who had received the links, Mr John Blakely added: “Many students and parents want this brought to light especially as it’s a well-reputed grammar school.”
Some were even calling for the teachers dismissal but the school believes in her innocence. the head of the school of 860 students, Mr Gary Hickey, told parents he would not be taking action. “It was a genuine mistake, corrected by this highly respected teacher, as soon she became aware. We’ve had no complaints.”
Miss Bowater meanwhile has declared that she was “mortified”. Many of her former pupils describe her as “very strict” on teacher rating sites.
We are just wondering how the boys in her class will be looking at her the next time she stands before them, and of course the bigger question, how many of those boys told their parents about the mistake in the first place?
