A pregnant woman from Prince George’s County who was set on fire on Friday afternoon remains in critical condition now and fighting for her life in the hospital.
The victim has been identified as Andrea Grinage, 30 years old.
Grinage’s father is visibly shocked with what was done to her daughter, especially given the fact that she’s in a sensitive condition. Arthur Grinage told local media: ”You never think it will happen to you loved ones- let alone your daughter.”
The culprit for the despicable act of setting a pregnant woman on fire is her own boyfriend, and the father of the baby she was carrying. He was said to be mad at her because he wasn’t ready for the responsibilities of being a new father.
Arthur said of her daughter’s boyfriend: “It all stems from him not wanting to take responsibility for him being a (new) dad. He didn’t want that. And once a baby is conceived, it’s too late for all that. You either step up and be a dad or you walk away.”
The baby wasn’t due for another seven weeks but because of what happened to the mother, the doctors decided to deliver the baby way ahead of schedule. The baby girl was named Journey Aleah.
The baby’s grandfather said despite being born prematurely and her mother being in critical condition, baby Journey Aleah is okay. He said: “She is doing well. She has five of everything and we are blessed.”
Investigators said Grinage was still able to tell her neighbors who her attacker is. She also warned them that he is going to D.C. to kill one of her family members.
Detectives working on the case was able to talk to the suspect on the phone and convinced him to turn himself in. Law enforcement has yet to share his identity, though.
The suspect has been put behind bars while the probe’s ongoing, and while the mother fights for her life.
