Parents and Grandparents, any guardian, are supposed to provide their children with nurturing love, night and day, twenty-four hours a day always.
That's not what happened in Racine County, Washington though, according to police.
Law enforcement says that they were called to the home about potential child abuse involving a 9-year-old child, and they were absolutely disgusted by what they found when they went inside.
Officers say that the young child was forcefully being locked inside or a padlocked dog cage at night, so the grandparents wouldn't have to deal with the child.
Detectives from the Racine County Sheriff's Office also believe that the poor child was locked inside or the cage during the daytime hours as well as a form of ‘punishment’, but it seems more like torture.
After the initial call to police, investigators then went to the residence Wednesday and found the dog cage used to torture the young boy. Officers say that the cage was 4 feet long, 8 feet wide, and almost 5 feet tall.
According to the Deputies who went to the home both 47-year-old Gale D. Lalonde and 48-year-old Dale A. Deaverswere taken into custody after they found the disturbing prison for the young boy.
Children's Services were then contacted who removed the child and another sibling from inside the home of the brutally abusive parents.
"I was sickened at what I witnessed last night. This, by far, is one of the most disturbing and heart-wrenching cases of child abuse I’ve seen. It doesn’t get much worse than this," Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said of the incident.
The inside of the cage had cardboard on the floor, a couple of blankets, and a padlock to keep the child from escaping, authorities said.
“I wouldn’t treat my own dog that way,” said Sheriff Schmaling. “Our information so far is that the child was housed in this dog kennel for at least a week, about 12 hours a day,” he said. “Was put in there in the evening and then let out in the morning to get ready for school.”
He said the child was given food and cared for “with the exception of being abused and housed in a dog kennel like an animal.”
The child lived in the home with a 10-year-old sibling, their 47-year-old grandmother and the 48-year-old man who owned the property, Schmaling said.
The two horrible excuses for human beings are now being detained in the Racine County Jail facing multiple charges including causing mental harm to a child, false imprisonment and other felony charges.
