Today Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced the intention of the Trump Administration to end the Obama Era rules which were widely considered sexist in regards to allegations of sexual violence on campus.
DeVos said Thursday, "The era of 'rule by letter' is over," as she announced plans to scrap the Obama policies which were considered anti-male.
The Obama Administration failed horribly in its efforts, which saw many students kicked off campus for claims that were untrue an outright unfair.
Education Secretary DeVos says Obama's rules have failed many students and done a great "disservice to everyone involved."
DeVos makes clear that "acts of sexual misconduct are reprehensible, disgusting, and unacceptable."
But she says, "Instead of working with schools on behalf of students, the prior administration weaponized the Office for Civil Rights to work against schools and against students."
DeVos spoke to about 100 invited guests at George Mason University, where protesters had gathered outside, worried that she would announce changes to the way sexual violence cases are handled on campuses across the country.
“One rape is one too many,” DeVos said firmly, but she also repeatedly emphasized the rights of students who are accused, saying one person denied due process is one too many.
“Every survivor of sexual misconduct must be taken seriously,” she said. “Every student accused of sexual misconduct must know that guilt is not predetermined.
Now the Department Of Education will use public opinion and University expertise to develop rules to replace the current policy.
It's finally time for women to no longer be able to ruin a man simply by making false claims against him.
That doesn't mean we don't protect rape victims and legitimate claims, but up until now all a woman had to do was break up with a man and make false allegations and ruin his life.
