The Lufkin Police Department learned a valuable lesson last Saturday when a suspect in custody managed to slip out of her handcuffs and drive off in the police SUV she was in. A video from inside the SUV caught the foolish escape on camera. A police chase ensued as Toscha Sponsler, 33, reached speeds of 100 mph in the SUV she stole.

The Lufkin Police Department turned the whole ordeal into a learning experience and edited the whole chase together with the final shot an officer is securing a new barrier inside the police vehicle. Sponsler can be seen near the start of the video wriggling her arms and slipping out of her cuffs. Next, she looks around to make sure no one is looking and squirms through a small opening leading to the front seat.

She manages to start the SUV and drive off as officers scramble to stop her. An officer can be heard saying, "What the hell?" as she drives off. The chase lasted 23 minutes and finally comes to an end when Sponsler looses control of the vehicle and spins out on the side of the road. She is quickly surrounded by officers with guns drawn and they break the SUV's window to get at her.
Finally, she is pulled from the vehicle and 're-arrested'. Sponsler was hit with a whole slew of charges including aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance and unauthorized use of a vehicle. She is being held at Angelina County Jail on $18,000 bond.
