Five nurses at Denver Health Medical Center have been given a three week suspension after opening a body bag to admire the corpses genitals and ranting about them. A hospital spokesman confirms that multiple nurses were caught exposing and pointing at a deceased patient's genitals after another nurse tipped off administration.
Josh Rasmussen, the spokesman for Denver Health Medical Center, also said another nurse overheard a comment in May that she felt was inappropriate and reported it to the Denver Health Medical Center staff. According to a Denver Police report, "Multiple staff members viewed the victim while he was incapacitated, including after he was deceased." The report went on to say, "The complainant, Risk Management for Denver Health, made a mandatory report."
There does not seem to be any criminal charges against the five nurses, only disciplinary action. It is very unfortunate to hear of such behavoir from the very people who are meant to be the caretakers of your body. I can't help but feel there would be more outrage and a harsher sentence if the five offending nurses were male and the victim was female however there does not appear to be a law against 'viewing a corpse inappropriately' in this particular setting and would likely be difficult to prove in court.
