Law enforcement in Nashville, Tennessee say that a shooting at Tennessee State University has prompted campus officials to issue a lockdown.

Officers were quickly dispatched to Boyd Hall parking lot located at 3500 John A. Merritt Boulevard after an emergency 911 call reporter a shooting.

Police say that the victim was found shot in the chest and that emergency medical technicians then transported the student to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in what is described as serious condition.

According to the school, the victim was a former student, who had previously enrolled during the Spring semester, but was not currently a student at Tennessee State University.

During a press conference however the Tennessee State University Campus Police said that the shooting victim was a current resident at Boyd Hall.

After reviewing the surveillance video Metro Police said that the suspect fled the scene after the shooting, and that at this time they're not aware of a motive.

Detectives will be speaking with the victim after he awakens from surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the victim or who may have witnessed the shooting is asked to contact police at 615-74-CRIME.
