Salt Lake City Juvenile Leads Police On High Speed Pursuit Before Being Shot

A police chase in Salt Lake City led to the arrest and shooting of a juvenile after the boy led police on a pursuit Sunday morning. Cottonwood Heights Police say that around 3:09 a.m. an officer was involved in a vehicle pursuit when the driver of the car crashed.

Salt Lake Police Department Sgt. Brandon Shearer says the suspect is a juvenile African American male and he fled the vehicle after the crash. The boy led police on a foot chase when he was finally shot near the 1300 South and 500 West block in Cottonwood Heights. The police officer was not injured who chased, shot and subdued the boy. The suspect driving the vehicle survived and is expected to make a full recovery. The juvenile African American also had a firearm on him at the time of his arrest and was likely the reason he was fleeing and eluding.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave following standard routine during such an investigation. The boys identity has not been released at this time.
