Machete Wielding Hitchhiker who Forced Kentucky Lockdown Apprehended

Daviess County Sheriff's Deputies say that a suspect is now in custody after serious threats that forced nearby businesses and schools to go onto an emergency lockdown.

The suspect, Billy Jack Bowles, of Lexington, Kentucky; was allegedly hitchhiking when a driver picked Bowles up along the side of the road in Whitesville.

The driver of the vehicle agreed to take the man across town, but Bowles demanded the driver take him to Louisville.

When the good samaritan said he couldn't go that far, Bowles became enraged and then pulled out a large Machete, threatening to kill the driver if he didn't comply.

The driver pulled over during the time that they were arguing, and a passerby just happened to stop to see if they needed help which may have saved the driver's life.

At that time Bowles jumped out of the vehicle and took off running which prompted the driver and the passerby to contact police.

Nearby schools of Whitesville Elementary, St. Mary’s Of The Woods, and Whitesville Trinity were all placed on lockdown temporarily to ensure the students safety.

Witnesses at a nearby Dollar General had watched Bowles run into the store, and police went to that direction.

Soon thereafter sirens raging in the distance alerted Bowles who attempted to flee the Dollar General where he was then apprehended hiding behind a fence.

Sheriff's Deputies have not said yet how many charges Bowles faces, that they are currently searching the interstate for the machete used.
