A woman in Hawley, Pennsylvania was arrested after an investigation connected her to the death of her mother. 52-year-old Moira Richey has been charged with abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft two months after the body of her mother was found decomposing. A 2-month long investigation found evidence that Richey allegedly allowed her 80-year-old mother's body to decompose.
The husband of the victim had already passed away in a Honesdale bed-and-breakfast. Richey is being charged with forgery and theft after authorities say she withdrew money from her dead mother's bank account in May. A date long after her mother's death. The body of Patricia Richey was found in the third-floor bedroom at the Harvest Inn in June. That is when investigators were informed by the hotel's owners that a skeleton had been found in Richey's room. After an autopsy was conducted on the victim's body, it was found that Patricia Richey had broken ribs and so badly decomposed that a pathologist couldn't determine how she actually died, or when.
The autopsy put the woman's death to at least several months prior to the date it was discovered. Local news tried to get an interview with Richey when she was being transferred but she declined to comment and covered her face. Moira Richey is currently in jail awaiting a trail and sentencing where her guilt will be decided.
