What the Hell? Catholic School Removes Statues of Mary and Jesus to be “More Inclusive”

Something insane is gripping America. Actually, it is just triggered by a group of aggressive, violent, hypocritical left, or “alt-left” as President Trump puts it, and others are just being pressured to yield to their unnecessary and unfair, if not out of this world demands. In fact, the unthinkable has happened. One supposedly independent Catholic school in the San Francisco Bay Area has removed a statue of Mary and Baby Jesus from its campus purportedly in an attempt to be “more inclusive.” It’s come to that pathetic level of being incredulous.

Several statues and Catholic icons have been removed from the campus of San Domenico School in San Anselmo. The Marin Independent Journal reported that the move is meant to be part of a “new strategic plan” to appeal to more potential students.”

The prioress general of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael Sister Maureen McInerney, tried to downplay the trend, or even the “pressure” as she said in the newspaper interview despite the removal of some statues in the campus,”there are still many statues around the campus.” She also said: “San Domenico is a Catholic school, it also welcomes people of all faiths. It is making an effort to be inclusive of all faiths.”’

Campus officials have also been quick to clarify that despite the “timing” of the removal of known Catholic icons on campus, the issue is a “totally different” matter than the controversy in Charlottesville over the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Amy Skewes-Cox, who heads San Domenico School’s board of trustees, said there is “absolutely no connection other than it is change, and people have a hard time with change.”

Many are unhappy with the arbitrary move, however, including parents and alumni of the school. Kim Pipki said: “The one main statue that has everyone fired up is the baby Jesus and Mary one. It was at the center of the primary school courtyard.”

Another parent of an 8-year-old student of the campus was even more adamant about the change as she wrote in her email addressed to the school’s board of directors: “Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs.”

She added: “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be less ‘Catholic’ , and the uniform was changed to be less ‘Catholic’.”

It seems like such an irony since many, if not most, parents chose the campus because precisely it was a Catholic institution and they want to give their children a Catholic education. What could be wrong with that when there’s supposedly freedom of religion in the country?

Many took to social media to air their disagreement with the school’s removal of some Catholic icons statues on campus especially Mama Mary and Baby Jesus.

Margaret McCormick wrote: “It’s a Catholic for God’s sake. If people get offended, they need to not be there. Disgrace putting away Jesus and Mary. Remember His warnings.”

Another could not help but be sarcastic: “What’s next? A little red book?” As yet another one did not hesitate to pull the punches: “Welcome to San Domenico’s Dominican Catholic school where Jesus, Mary and Catholicism don’t exist. Please enjoy your complimentary Quran.”

One cautioned: “This seems ludicrous and foolish. The Dominicans should be ashamed of this shallow and ungodly behavior.”
