37 year old Michael Pankey is now in a Federal Detention Facility after the FBI and Child Sex Crimes task forces have found Child Pornography in the possession of his home.
While he faces charges of possession and production of child porn, both federal crimes, he's also awaiting trial in Detroit where it's believed he sexually assaulted a five year old girl.
Pankey had allegedly abused her, according to the court filings earlier this year.
On May 6th, Detroit Police executed a search warrant at Pankey’s home and police said that “numerous items of electronic media were seized, including five DVDs labeled “Never Watch,” “Never Watch 2,” “Never Watch 3,” “Never Watch 4” and “Never Watch 5.”
A review by Detroit Police stated that they found “suspected child pornography.” Police determined that the DVDs contained about 800 images and 160 videos of alleged child sexually abusive material.
A forensic exam by a Detroit Police Department computer examiner discovered a series of sexually explicit images, among which were the 5 year old minor victim.
In that video the young girl, who Pankey was allegedly babysitting appeared to be sleeping on a couch while he vaginally penetrated the girl with a left hand index finger.
The girl later described the horrifying crime to police and helped identify Pankey by pointing out that he has a brown, round spot or mole near the first knuckle “just like Pankey’s left hand index finger.”
The victim’s mother identified the couch as belonging to her girlfriend in Ypsilanti, wrote a Special Agent with the Department of Homeland Security who had been previously assigned to the Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children task force in the affidavit.
A preliminary examination on criminal sexual conduct charges was held on May 23rd, according to Maria Miller, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
After hearing testimony, 36th District Judge William McConico bound Pankey over to Wayne County Circuit Court on the charges, Miller said.
He posted a $100,000 cash bond at that time, police said Thursday. The FBI is also investigating that he may run a syndicate of Child Pornography which is how he has so much liquid assets.
Pankey is awaiting trial on five counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct; one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct; one count of indecent exposure; and three counts of possessing sexually explicit material, police said.
Authorities sought to arrest him again this month for allegedly possessing and producing child porn in relation to the case, records show.
He first appeared in federal court on August the 17th and consented to detention, said Gina Balaya, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Detroit. His preliminary exam is set for 1 PM Thursday.
Investigators have learned that Pankey worked at four separate daycare and childcare centers in metro Detroit since at least January of 2016.
Special Agents say that at one point in time he used an alias of Michael Leverette.
Detroit Police Detectives would also like to locate more children who have had contact with Pankey and may have been victims themselves to sexual abuse, since they found dozens of photographs of underage children as young as three in his possession.
The facilities in which are confirmed to have employed the pedophile are as follows:
Rainbow Child Care Center - formerly known as Little Munchkins and Cribs to Crayons in Sterling Heights.
Urukul Montessori Academy in Troy.
Oakland University Lowrey Center Daycare on the Oakland University campus in Rochester.
North Hills Child Care Center in Troy.
If your children have attended any of these facilities or believe that they may have had contact with Pankey call Detroit Police At 313-596-5200 and urge them to investigate.
