In a brutal attack against two Pennsylvania State Troopers in Fayette County, which is just southeast of Pittsburgh, law enforcement say that two of their officers were shot during an attempted traffic stop.

Investigators from the Pennsylvania State Trooper’s office say that last night suspect was stopped for an outstanding warrant.

The incident occurred outside the Fairchance Shop 'n Save store at 58 W. Church Street, between 8 and 9 PM.

As Troopers began to approach him, potentially while undercover, they say that the suspect then pulled a gun from his backpack and started to fire shots in their direction.

During the gunfight both troopers were injured, but one of them was able to fire off at least one shot, killing the suspect.

One of the troopers was care-flighted from the scene of the crime to a hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, officials said.

The other trooper was taken to a hospital via ambulance.

Investigators say that one trooper was shot in the stomach and was in surgery at a hospital in Morgantown around 10:30 PM. Sources say the other trooper was shot in the hand.
