In a terrifying practice to gain stature, MS-13 game members have lured a man and violently stabbed him to death. The murder took place in Mineola, New York last January when two members of the street gang MS-13 used knives and machetes to hack a man to death. Kevin Granados-Coreas, 19, and Carlos Portillo, 22, were arraigned on July 30th for murdering Julio Cesar Gonzales-Espantzay who was only 19. The murder is just one in a recent string of homicides in the East New York City suburbs that has resulted in the death of 21 people in the last 20 months alone.

The mounting violence has even caught the attention of President Donald Trump and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The President and Sessions have both recently visited Long Island and promised the aid of Federal resources to help curb the violent trend. Police investigating the murder of Gonzales-Espantzay say there are likely to be more arrests related to his death as the two in custody are part of a larger group involved in the murder. There is even a possibility of Federal charges being levied against the two men. Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said, "I mean, 19-year-olds hacked up and dropped in our preserves is just something that really should be shocking to residents of this county. It's shocking to us in law enforcement and we see a lot."
Kevin Granados-Coreas is being held without bail for second-degree murder along with his accomplice, Carlos Portillo. Police say that the victim was not even a part of the violent street gang, he was simply lured by the two perpetrators when the men promised 'sex and marijuana'. Although Gonzales-Espantzay was murdered January 28th, his remains were not discovered until a man walking his dog came across them, even then it took weeks for authorities to identify the body.
