Robert Yancy has been confirmed dead at 39 late Monday night. Robert Yancy is the only child of acclaimed singer Natalie Cole. He was the grandson of timeless jazz singer Nate King Cole who was a jazz musician in the early 1900's in America. Yancy was found dead at his home in Sherman Oakes, California late Monday night. An unnamed party close to Yancy called the police to have them do a welfare check when they become worried after no contact could be made.
According to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, he died of natural causes but the official cause of death will not be released until a complete autopsy has been performed. Cole Augustus, Yancy's aunt, said in an interview, "It appears to be a sudden heart attack." Yancy's mother, Natalie Cole, died of pulmonary arterial hypertension at age 65. Heart failure appears to be a common cause of death in the Cole family and may be passed from one generation to the next.
Even Yancy's father died of a heart attack at age 34 when he was just 7 years old. Marvin, Yancy's father, was the first of Nicole Cole's three husbands and played drum's for her touring band. Yancy's aunt also said in the interview, "He was in a happy place. He was feeling good. We were looking forward to celebrating his 40th birthday." Yancy's death is another tragic end to a life too soon in a series of famous singers passing on in the last couple years.
