Man Dressed As Chewbacca Attacks Ski Resort Employee

While most people were enjoying the summer heat Sunday, one man was snowboarding while dressed as the infamous walking carpet, Chewbacca. The furry character from Star Wars violently assaulted a ski resort employee in Thredbo, Australia with his snowboard. The injured man was a 55-year-old employee of Alpine Way resort and suffered injuries to his face and teeth.

The 55-year-old ski resort worker has not been named but details of the assault were posted when Chewbacca took to social media to explain his side of the story. In a social media post, the assailant said he was informed by an employee of the resort that he had been banned from riding his snowboard while in a costume. The assailant also said of the victim "He lost consciousness and some teeth" and he himself has "been ordered not to have any contact with Thredbo staff (even if I know them) about what happened and must stay 15km away from Thredbo."

The victim of the assault has taken out an AVO against the attacker, which is the Australian equivalent of a restraining order. 'AVO' stands for Apprehended Violence Order and occurs when a court grants an AVO to a person who fears violence, harassment, abuse, or stalking. It is intended to keep the victim safe from further abuse and the subject named in the order will face legal repercussions if it's violated. The man dressed as Chewbacca has been granted bail and has to appear at a Cooma Local Court on September 6 to face charges.
