A 2-Year-Old Boy Shot in Lancaster

A 2-year-old boy was fatally shot in the chest on Monday night. The incident is being investigated by detectives in Lancaster. Authorities said that the police responded to a reported shooting at a home on East Dunlap Street. Lancaster Police Chief Scott Grant confirmed a little after 11 p.m. Monday that the boy died at Springs Memorial Hospital.

Grant emphasized that "It's about as bad as it gets," adding that investigators are working to determine if the shooting was accidental in nature. Authorities have not identified the child that was killed.

"We're investigating it as a death and we'll let those facts determine whether it was an accident or something else," Grant said."

The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. A 2-year-old boy is dead after being shot in the chest in Lancaster Monday night, according to Lancaster City Police. The incident, which took place on East Dunlap Street, happened about 7:30 p.m. At this time, it's unclear if the child was inside or outside when the shooting incident took place.

The state investigators arrived on the scene shortly after 10 p.m. Monday. SLED agents could be seen walking around and through the property on East Dunlap Street. According to Lancaster City Police, SLED was in the area for a different investigation.
