Pedophile Ex-Priest Paul Shanley Moves Across Street From Children's Dance Studio

Now defrocked pedophile Priest Paul Shanley, who just served 12 years in Prison for the rape of a boy at a Newton Church, has been released from prison in a shocking display of negligence for his crimes.

While only facing a single conviction, Paul Shanley has been accused over the years of committing several dozen rapes and sexual abuses by at least fifty individuals, and no additional charges were brought against him.

The now 87 year old convicted Pedophile was accused by so many children of assault that it created the now infamous Catholic sec abuse scandal that is known as the ‘domino effect’, which literally resulted in the names of over 4,000 clergyman and other religious figures being placed into a sex abuse database.

The story literally put the Boston Globe on the map, winning them the Pulitzer Prize for their groundbreaking investigative journalism, and eventually inspired the Oscar winning Hollywood film ‘Spotlight’, which essentially applauded the devotion of the Boston Globe reporters for shining a light into the decades of cover-ups by the Catholic Church.

The Archdiocese of Boston released a statement Tuesday calling Shanley’s crimes “reprehensible,” adding “no young person should ever have to experience such violations of their safety and dignity.”

In 2003, the Archdiocese of Boston settled a lawsuit of $85 million for 552 alleged victims of abuse, in a massive payoff to silence the atrocities committed by those close to the church against children.

In 2003, the advocacy group Bishop Accountability documented that “Several men allege Shanley appeared before them in a "Christ-like" pose and forced them to perform oral sex. Three say Shanley asked them to perform sex acts on other men. And two say the molestation occurred after games such as spin-the-bottle and strip poker.”

Shanley was defrocked one year later in 2003, which was the first time the Vatican began to publicly acknowledge that there was a major problem involving child sex abuse and those who served the Catholic Church.

In 2005 Shanley was convicted and sentenced, where he served only 12 years in the Old Colony Correctional Facility in Bridgewater after destroying the lives forever of many children.

Investigators say that Shanley was a well-respected clergyman, who was nicknamed the “Street Priest” for his habit of roaming the most dangerous neighborhoods claiming to help troubled youth.

Shanley, however, had a dark side that began to come forward as allegations were made against him in as early as 1997 the he secretly used the anonymity of vulnerable, misdirected boys as a weapon to sexually abuse them.

As if the fact that Shanley’s release wasn't controversial enough, he did in fact register as a sec offender after gaining freedom, but now neighbors in the town of Ware, which is where he moved, are outraged that he's in their community at all.

By order of the law as a result of his offenses, Shanley is forbidden from having any contact with a minor younger than 16 years of age. Which is where the new controversy is stemming from.

Shanley’s new home is literally directly across the street from a popular children's dance studio, which has children being taught within its facilities as young as two years of age.

What's even more so strange, is that there are three other Level 3 sex offenders living right next door to Shanley.

The state Sex Offender Registry Board classifies offenders by their likelihood of re-offending, with Level 3 as most likely to re-offend. While board officials do not comment on specific classifications, the board’s guidelines say while age is a factor, it is not a deciding one.

He belongs in jail. I don’t care how many years he did. They should have never let him out. He should have died in there,” said Leslie Mansour, 45, a mother of five who lives on the street. “I don’t want him on this street at all.

“He should never have been set free,” said Bob Hoatson, President of Road to Recovery, who protested in Ware with a sign reading “86 and still a risk.”

“He should be in jail for life. He is still very dangerous. The fact that he’s 86 is no barrier,” Hoatson added.

Ware Police Chief Shawn Crevier said that Shanley has registered as a sex offender and that psychologists citing Shanley's elderly age and health issues concluded his likelihood to re-offend is low.

"I'm sure that law enforcement will ensure that the community feels safe, and I have every expectation that they are going to be certain that Paul Shanley also remains safe," says Shanley's lawyer.

"Paul Shanley should be in a hospital being treated and not in the outside world where he can easily gain access to innocent children," argues an attorney who represented dozens of Shanley's accusers.

Many of those within the neighborhood agree, and most certainly Shanley will have a target on his back by former victims of his crimes who never had justice granted since Shanley was only charged with one offense.
