Witnesses say that the victim was stabbed repeatedly after an altercation involving two other males at about 4 PM on the grounds of the Zoo, according to Cincinnati Zoo Communications Director Michelle Curley.

Police say that the two suspects believed to be responsible for the stabbing attack fled the scene and left the zoo after the stabbing, Curley said.

Cincinnati Police Sergeant Franz said that the victim has extremely serious injuries, but that the hospital he was transported to says they are fortunately not going to be life threatening.

First responders to the scene of the crime were able to immediately transport the victim to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Detectives from the Cincinnati Police Department say they currently do not have footage of the suspects to release at this time, although they're awaiting the Zoo to handover any security footage they may have.

One witness, Luke Rhynolds, was visiting the Zoo Saturday with his family when he said he saw "a lot of blood" and heard people screaming.

Officials from the Cincinnati Zoo taped off a “very limited area” near the gift shop and the train station, which are both close to the entrance of the Zoo, Franz said.

Cincinnati Police Sergeant Franz also suggested that police have several descriptions of the suspect from various witnesses, and they are working on getting a solid description.

“Right now there are too many different stories, and our Police are interviewing all the witnesses. It’s going to take a brief period to get a good, accurate description,” Franz said.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on the suspects or who may of witnessed the getaway vehicle should call Cincinnati Police at (513) 352-2971.

Franz said the Cincinnati Zoo did not close after the stabbing, and that there was no danger to the public which kept the Police Department from having to evacuate the park.
